TerraGrants+ helps nonprofits build stronger grant strategies and proposals.
We work closely with nonprofit executives and boards to develop programs that are both effective and fundable, and to build grant strategies that support their long-term goals. As a small firm, we are selective about the clients we work with. Many of those relationships span years, allowing us to develop a deep understanding of each organization and become a trusted extension of its development team.
our Services
Grant STRATEGY & planning
We help nonprofits develop thoughtful grant strategies based on their goals, programs, capacity, and long-term funding needs. Services may include grant readiness, funding priorities, project development, grant calendars, and sustainability planning.
grant research & FUNDER STRATEGY
We identify and evaluate prospective funders based on eligibility, alignment, competitiveness, timing, and fit, helping clients focus their time and resources on the opportunities most worth pursuing.
Grant Proposal Development
We develop compelling, competitive proposals from concept through submission, including narratives, budgets, supporting materials, application requirements, and coordination with staff and project partners.
Proposal Review & Strategic Guidance
For organizations that don't need full proposal development, we provide an experienced outside review with practical guidance on funder alignment, positioning, clarity, competitiveness, budgets, and application requirements.
Grant Training
We provide customized grant training for nonprofit staff, boards, and community groups. Topics include grant readiness, prospect research, proposal development, funder relationships, grant strategy, and managing the full grant cycle.
Nonprofit & Board Development
Strong organizations need more than strong proposals. We work with nonprofit leaders and boards to strengthen governance, fundraising strategy, organizational capacity, and the effective use of board members' skills, relationships, and resources.
about us

TERRA MORTENEN, GPC
Grant Strategist & FounderTerra Mortensen is a Grant Professional Certified (GPC) grant strategist and GPA-Approved Grant Trainer with more than 15 years of experience helping nonprofit organizations secure funding, strengthen programs, and build effective grant strategies.
After a 15-year career in marketing, advertising, and public relations, Terra founded TerraGrants+ in 2010. Her communications background gave her a strong foundation in clear, persuasive writing, but her work extends well beyond proposal development. Today, she helps nonprofit leaders identify the right funding opportunities, shape fundable projects, develop competitive proposals, and make thoughtful decisions about how grant funding fits into their broader organizational goals.
Terra has written hundreds of successful grant proposals and works closely with nonprofit executives, staff, and boards. Because TerraGrants+ intentionally serves a limited number of clients, many relationships continue for years, allowing Terra to develop a deep understanding of each organization and become a trusted extension of its development team.
Terra holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she graduated with University Honors and was recognized nationally as a PRSSA Gold Key recipient.
